2010 Rome Snowboards Preview in Sacramento
Written by Jay Pee

NorCal Rome Rep John Graham held a preview party last week for the 2010 lineup of Rome Snowboards and Eesa Firstlayer products. Also on hand were industry artists Shawn Carney and Joel Cline. The pics are only of the showroom and some of the artwork because there was so much free alcohol courtesy of Red Bull and Red Stripe that it made it hard to want to pull the camera out. Local pros like John Foy, Stephen Duke, and Zak Shelhamer were on hand for the debauchery as well.

Swatch TTR Tour Reignites at 6 Star O'Neill Evolution

Innsbruck, Austria – December 30th, 2008: The 6Star O’Neill Evolution in Davos, January 5th – 10th 2009 will kick the Swatch TTR Snowboard Tour back into overdrive as some of the world’s best snowboarders rock into the Swiss town to fight it out for TTR glory. The first TTR 6Star competition on European soil in 2009 has a plethora of points spread over two formats and promises to set up for some exciting new ranking changes. First up, riders will tackle the 5Star Slopestyle course and with 850 ranking points the first day and a total prize purse of $100,000 USD up for grabs the competition will be fierce.

A Tour lead change could go down and we are guaranteed to see some new faces in the Swatch TTR Top 5. Currently sitting in TTR World No.4, Janne Korpi (FIN) has the opportunity to snatch the top spot away from Chas Guldemond (USA), provided he can step it up on the Slopestyle course. Although Guldemond is not yet confirmed on the riders list for this year’s Evolution there is a strong chance we will see him returning to Davos to defend his TTR No.1 position.

With Finland well represented at the competition we can expect Risto Mattila and Peetu Piiroinen to fire it up as a good result on the Slopestyle course could catapult them into the TTR Top 5. All this season’s Finnish competitors put in strong performances at last year’s event, bagging four out of six possible podium positions between them. These results may give them the confidence to stage a repeat performance this season.

The new kid on the block, Seb Toots (CAN) will be looking to capitalize on the hype surrounding his arrival to the big time and with a top 5 finish on the Slopestyle course he has the potential to jump into the TTR Top 5 as well. Like Mattila and Piiroinen, Seb is coming straight into this competition following a top 10 result at the 6Star Nissan X-Trail Jam and will be going for broke as he chases his TTR dreams.

The O’Neill Evolution will also see the likes of Dimi De Jong (NED), Victor De Le Rue (FRA) and Elias Elhardt (GER) stepping it up on the big stage. The Euro crew will be further bolstered by Colin Frei (SUI), Olivier Gittler (FRA) and Jamie Nicholls (GBR). Last year’s Highest Air winner Manuel Pietropoli (ITA) will be in attendance alongside Martin Cernik (CZE) and Seppe Smits (BEL), who recently claimed 2nd place in the 4Star Horsefeathers Pleasure Jam in Austria. James Hamilton (NZE), one of the most dominating during the Downunder season, will be out to prove he’s got what it takes in the Northern Hemisphere contests as will American rider Tim Humphreys..

All the action from the O’Neill Evolution will be broadcasted on www.oneilltv.com, www.freecaster.tv and www.mpora.com. To watch the action live log on January 9th 2009, 15.45 – 22.30 CET (Slopestyle) and January 10th 2009, 15.45 – 22.30h CET (Quarterpipe). For video updates, news and ranking changes from the events going down around the world make sure you check out www.ttrworldtour.com. Around the other side of the globe the top Asian rookies will be fighting it out at the 3Star EXR Snowboard Asian Tour in Korea.

Stay tuned because the TTR Title race in January will be well and truly underway as riders battle it out for international glory. With a total prize money payout of $2 million USD including event prize money on the Swatch TTR World Snowboard Tour the stakes are high.

Donner Summit, CA, (December 30, 2008) – The much anticipated Superpipe in the Boreal Terrain Park is set to open on Thursday January 1st. Olympic in size, this years Superpipe at Boreal offers walls the height of 18.5 feet extending 450 feet in length, and a consistent slope grade of 15 degrees. As always Boreal’s focus on premier parks and pipes continues by introducing the first Superpipe in Tahoe this winter season.
This signature feature is sure to please.

With over 10 feet of fresh snow over the past few weeks, Mother Nature provided more than enough snow for the world-renowned builder Eric Rosenwald to complete his masterpiece. The Terrain Park crew grooms the pipe twice daily, once from 2 p.m.- 6 p.m. and once overnight. Boreal Mountain Resort is open from 9am to 9pm daily, weather permitting. Located on Race Course Run, the Superpipe can be accessed from the Accelerator chair lift.

This season will mark the first year that the Boreal Superpipe will host two major US pipe competitions. Watch the pros throw down in an all out battle for cash and prizes in the US Grand Prix Snowboard competition taking place on January 29th –February 1st. Then, two days later the US Snowboard Association brings the Snowboard Revolution Tour to Boreal on February 3-6th.

An honor of this magnitude brings a buzz of excitement to the mountain. Boreal Marketing Director Jon Slaughter had this to say about the anticipation of these events. “Being selected to host the US Snowboarding Grand Prix is a major honor and solidifies the commitment that Boreal has made to our terrain parks. Now Boreal has the opportunity to showcase our resort, by welcoming two top level events to the mountain.”

Escape the couch. Escape to Boreal, located off Interstate 80 atop Donner Summit, just 90 minutes from Sacramento, 35 minutes from Reno and only 8 miles from Truckee, escaping has never been easier. Plus, with Boreal’s new quad chair and enhanced snowmaking capabilities, the mountain is better than ever. Boreal Mountain Resort offsets 100 percent of its electricity by purchasing green power.

Dew Tour Finals

Photobucket All in all the week was filled with insane riding and crazy maneuvers. During the preliminaries for slope the guys were giving it there all, I saw every singe 1080 that is possible and a few different double fliporoos. With heavy hitters there like Danny Davis, Mason Aguirre, Shaun White, Torstein Horgmo, Eric Willett, Andreas Wiig, Mikkel Bang, Porters team riders Chas Guldemond and Brandon Cocard, Heikki Sorsa, Iouri Podlachikov you know that prelims are going to be a heavy show down while riders compete for finals. When Finals started I didn't know what to expect I thought at least one rider would probably die trying those maneuvers but it was a epic show including double backside rodeos, switch back 12's, cab 12's but Shaun White ended up taking it with a front 10 followed by a back 9 then into a cab 1260 stomped. It was proper. the dew tour is definitely a good contest so keep your eyes peeled for the next few stops.
